Archos 5 Android Internet Tablet : Touchsreen and Slim Designed

Nov 16, 2009

Archos 5 Internet Tablet Super Slim has 800×480 pixel resolution in 4.8 inch resistive touchscreen. Some video formats like WMV, AVI and MKV can be played at the resolution up to 720p.

The internet access and web browser in Archos 5 is based on android rather than Linux base OS.

An on-board Wi-Fi is available for the online activity. Some other Android applications which already installed in this gadget is an integrated email client, ThinkFree Office Suite to view our work documents like Word and Excel files ; Twidroid app to update our Twitter account and eBuddy instant messaging application.

Unfortunately Archos is not supporting the Google’s Android Market. Archos has it’s own app store named AppLib. And though this device support flash player, but the browser is not. As the consequence once we play youtube video for example, it will be played in different player. Some complaints also dealing with the resistive touchscreen which is not as clear as the capacitive touch in other gadgets like iPhone.

An on-board GPS which comes with free seven-days trial and sat-nav software is available at purchasing. But all the GPS function will loose once the trial sat-nav period is over. This is because Google Maps is not available in Archos 5.

The super-slim Archos 5 Internet Tablet with 32GB of flash memory, is sold around £230. Two thicker models with hard drives are featuring  160GB version for about £250 and the 500GB version is sold for about £290.
